to blog or not to blog…

hey guysPerson-Thinking-or-Dreaming-Giclee-Print-C11860975.jpeg

how are you?!

obviously, i’ve been MIA here at her sweet nothings.  posts have been sporadic, to say the least.  the past two months–during which i’ve not even been working–i’ve had fewer posts than i did the crazy last month of school (though my frequency had already begun to decrease).
for a while, i had no desire to post or really be online that much.  now, i think about blog stuff and have ideas for things to write or share about but it’s on the bottom of my list of priorities and i’m not really all that upset that i haven’t been able to get to it.

i’ve got a few things to share today but what actually brought me here is an article in today’s paper.
*useless background info: i’ve been delivering resumes to different schools with my trusty mama by my side.  during these excursions, she intuitively makes everything ok by buying me starbucks.  everytime i go to starbucks these days, i look for a discarded statesmen for the crossword puzzle.  i scored a free paper today which is how i found the article.

patriotism, coffee, and healthy tips

jury-duty-stamp1this morning, i headed up to georgetown for the first time in a while because i was summoned for jury duty.
at first, i was kinda excited by this.  it seemed all cool and patriotic and i imagined myself in a john grisham novel.
as i was driving up there, i slowly began to reconsider.  thinking of all of the things i’d rather do with my time, hours of sitting with strangers, and the potential for listening to the account of some crime i’d rather not know about…suddenly, i thought this whole thing kinda sucked.
however, i’m lucky to technically be a full-time student and, thereby, exempt from serving.  about an hour and change with driving + $6 – gas = $1 and a first. not bad.

now, in the style of the great blogger, cory driver, i will give you a few things of interest and be on my way.

destined to be ugly

i normally kinda like my hands but not this week and i’m pretty sure they’re feeling the same towards me.

i already told you about the jammed fingers swelling up.  when i got to work monday morning, my kids thought it was very funny that i had two fat fingers and even more humorous that my ring was stuck.  when one went to the nurse for an ice pack, i was like, “eh…ask her for one for me too cause my fingers are starting to hurt.”
five minutes later, i got a phone call from a worried nurse offering her ring cutter.  i was like, “what!?  no!!”  after she interrogated me about the situation, i was able to assure her that she didn’t need to come down and check and that i’d let her know if it got worse.

things got worse but just for my hands, not the fingers.

people watching

in anticipation of birthday fun this evening and an otherwise full weekend, i woke early this morning and headed down to the starbucks in the arboretum.  over the past year or so, this specific location has become my chosen starbucks for getting work done.  today’s work was a portfolio for school due tuesday.

i sat there, work spread out on the little table before me, plugged into jack johnson’s curious george album.

nearby there was a group of about ten men having a great time together.  after observing them a little, it occurred to me that i’d seen them last time i visited.  their ages ranged from mid-thirties to, maybe, sixty and they represented a wide range of colors and nationalities and a large spectrum of the “cool” scale, both in actuality and self-perceived.  the discussion ranged from women to sports to the economy to knocking other men (which kinda surprised me).

what i loved most was Read the rest of this entry »

firsts of the birthday and more

firsts1over the past few weeks, i’ve been meaning to share some firsts as they happened but life has been busy stealing time from this blog.  and now, even though it’s late and i’m wanting to break the bad habit of not sleeping that i seem to be reverting to, i write because if i don’t get these firsts up soon, the excitement of them will diminish and they might never be shared.

brace yourself cause there’s quite a list… Read the rest of this entry »

cup sleeve this!

history shows that I like it when my food or drink has something to say. or at least when the packaging does. be it taco bell sauces, the way I see it on my coffee cup, or the wine cork from a few weeks back (that i lost before i could post), i just like it.

well, the green and orange “tea time” cup sleeves at starbucks have something to say and i don’t really like either of them.

the green one says “your next ‘action item’: do as little as possible.”
i have enough trouble as it is mustering up the dersire to be productive; i don’t need my coffee encouraging such anti-ant behavior. i don’t know why it bothered me so much the first time i read this but it did.
(ps-thanks for so diligently reading in the midst of your workday ;) )

the orange sleeve, the one that prompted this post (which has been nearly finished for weeks), says Read the rest of this entry »
