happy hour never tasted so sweet

reading the newspaper this morning gave me lots of info.

1. people are sick.
2. miracles can happen.
and, the one that could affect you most…
3. today’s your lucky day.

amy’s ice cream is celebrating 25 years and today, they’re having a free ice cream happy hour from 2-6!  yum, yum!photo-10

speaking of yumminess, yesterday as i was putzing around in my backyard, picking at this and that, i came across some veggies in my abandoned garden.  you see, the season has passed and most of my plants died anyway so i kinda left things to fend for themselves.  apparently, some of the little guys weren’t ready to say goodbye just yet and i have some nice looking vegetables for tonight’s dinner!

and finally, as some of you may have deduced from yesterday’s post, i went to a concert in san antonio last night.  monday, i got a text from nathan asking if we wanted to surprise kourt and join them for a Read the rest of this entry »

it’s a brand new day

happy music monday, friends, and welcome to the first week of november!

i sit here in my house awaiting the plumber.  you see, closing a wii-filled weekend o fun, i found that my garage flooded on sunday because of a leak in the water heater.  water flowed out the garage, providing nourishment for the grass and stress for me.

actually, that’s not true.  somehow, i’m not all that stressed about it.  does it suck?  yes.  but, if i’m going to stress out about something, there are much greater things at hand for me to choose from…see saw friends, the never-ending job hunt (not to mention the job woes of too many),  and maggie chewing her butt off, to list a few. (i’m not kidding…there’s blood on her little tush!!)

but, i don’t want to stress at all so today, i choose “d: none of the above” and continue to try to surrender to God, embrace the here and now, and hope for the future.

and now, i give you Read the rest of this entry »

i’m a big girl now

i did something aMAzing this morning.

after making my bed and spooning a bit of yogurt into my tummy…straight from the container just cause i can…

from my own accord, without any suggestion, reminder, or coaxing from boy or mama, with nary a tutor or slavedriver in sight… Read the rest of this entry »

anorexia excludes none

so far, today has been a good day.

eggs for breakfast, bed made, and kitchen tidied up before my parents arrived around 8:30. we spent about three hours dethatching and otherwise tending to my sad lawn while it was still a cool 94 degrees outside.

now, i finger-peck this post from my mama’s backyard. since i’ll be sweating it up later with some appreciated work from shawn, showering seemed wasteful, especially with a beautiful pool at my disposal.

as i put my towel down, countless memories of the same act flashed through my mind. i can’t think of a summer during which swimming and laying out, by pool and/or beach, wasn’t part of the norm. even when i was a beanpole and merrie was still shorter than me with peachfuzz legs, we took great care in laying our towels out and tried our best to rest for a bit before energy got the best of us and we had to run off to our next adventure.

what does this have to do with anorexia?
absolutely nothing.

that’s about Read the rest of this entry »

big news

there are big things going on these days.  people are gettin’ hitched, having babies, and more.  my news may not be as life-changing or impressive but it’s still a big deal for me and therefore worthy of sharing.

sunday night, embracing a new joy-free life, i had a first.

freedom

i may not have selected a word for the year yet, but i definitely have a word for the night.

FREEDOM

and webster’s 1.a. definition of the word is exactly what i’m talking about: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.

tonight, for the first time in…two weeks (!!!), i can do whatever i want.
