happy hour never tasted so sweet

reading the newspaper this morning gave me lots of info.

1. people are sick.
2. miracles can happen.
and, the one that could affect you most…
3. today’s your lucky day.

amy’s ice cream is celebrating 25 years and today, they’re having a free ice cream happy hour from 2-6!  yum, yum!photo-10

speaking of yumminess, yesterday as i was putzing around in my backyard, picking at this and that, i came across some veggies in my abandoned garden.  you see, the season has passed and most of my plants died anyway so i kinda left things to fend for themselves.  apparently, some of the little guys weren’t ready to say goodbye just yet and i have some nice looking vegetables for tonight’s dinner!

and finally, as some of you may have deduced from yesterday’s post, i went to a concert in san antonio last night.  monday, i got a text from nathan asking if we wanted to surprise kourt and join them for a Read the rest of this entry »

i interrupt your work day to say that i’m sorry

i’m sorry1236922 for interrupting and wasting your work time!
of course, you’re the one who came here to read it so i suppose you’re partially to blame.

last night, my parents buzzed by chris’ place to bring me a “sorry-your-day’s-so-sucky” coffee and hugs. since they were still there as he got home, chris invited them to stay for dinner. in the course of dinner conversation, after some explanation was given or something smart happened…i don’t know…maybe she was asking if he knew how to hack something again…i may not have been paying attention…but in the course of it all, my mom exclaimed that she liked that i dated geniuses. =)

though the first one broke the mold, most of the others who have caught my interest tend towards the brainy end. i’m sure it’s because they’re attracted to my own smarts, of course, of course…but it is what it is.

along with the territory, i’ve learned, seen, and heard about lots that i may not normally be exposed to.
like ieee’s spectrum magazine. when you date an engineer a tv repairman, you come to enjoy the articles in such a periodical since it’s the only one within reach from the potty.

as it was, yesterday, i found myself intrigued by the cover article’s description (“E-mail, tweets, and Facebook updates are destroying our productivity and our leisure”), and i soon found myself sucked in.

the article infoglut didn’t really mention twitter or facebook much. it focused more on extraneous emails that clog inboxes and steal time from “information workers” (engineer, dr, lawyer, etc), but it was interesting nonetheless.
and it made me wonder/think about several things:

to blog or not to blog…

hey guysPerson-Thinking-or-Dreaming-Giclee-Print-C11860975.jpeg

how are you?!

obviously, i’ve been MIA here at her sweet nothings.  posts have been sporadic, to say the least.  the past two months–during which i’ve not even been working–i’ve had fewer posts than i did the crazy last month of school (though my frequency had already begun to decrease).
for a while, i had no desire to post or really be online that much.  now, i think about blog stuff and have ideas for things to write or share about but it’s on the bottom of my list of priorities and i’m not really all that upset that i haven’t been able to get to it.

i’ve got a few things to share today but what actually brought me here is an article in today’s paper.
*useless background info: i’ve been delivering resumes to different schools with my trusty mama by my side.  during these excursions, she intuitively makes everything ok by buying me starbucks.  everytime i go to starbucks these days, i look for a discarded statesmen for the crossword puzzle.  i scored a free paper today which is how i found the article.

for funsies

so, i got this forward.
i generally veer from forwards but the political subject line caught my attention so i looked on.  the message had a link to an online survey that would tell you who to vote for.   *click*

why would i succumb to forward clicking?

breaking out of my bubble

the routine of my life does not lend itself to awareness of the world around.  no radio, no newspaper, no tv.  i am a great friend of the internet, yes…but mostly email and blogs.  “what?  there’s a hurricane about to wipe off the texas shoreline?”, i respond to friends out of state.  =(  yeah…it’s not pretty.

disagreeing with the church

ever since i can remember, i have gone to church. twenty-eight years has given me a lot of time to see a few churches make many different decisions.  some of those decisions are barely noticeable; others cause ripples that lead to splits.  today, i learned about a change at hill country bible church northwest.  though i no longer attend church there, the relationship the church shares with the school i work for causes some of their choices to influence me still.  suffice it to say, i’m not to happy about the news that was shared with the faculty today.
