highs of the week

hey there, hi there, ho there

with so many post-filled weeks recently, i’m feeling a little like a blogging slacker today since i haven’t posted since monday.  but there have been months with fewer posts than last week so i suppose it’s all relative.

in the story of us, the family plays a game during dinner called high/low in which each person goes around the table and gives their high and low of the day.  i think this is a fun way to talk about and reflect on the day or whatever duration of time chosen.   so, every now and then, chris or i will ask the other “high/low?” and we learn about what’s going on, or even if we already knew the things, learn about how those things were valued.

following are some highs from my week.

~cutting class tonight to go to main event for keli’i and kimo’s bday celebration.  not only will bowling with little boys be fun but i get to cut class for it!

~getting a “you’re a champion” slip at work for the percentage of customers i’ve had with membership sales/renewals in the past week.  when i get three of these babies, i can cash them in for Read the rest of this entry »

new pet

hi friends.  happy wednesday.

i have a story for you but first i’ll give you some background.

one of the many things that i like about me and chris is that we’re both usually ready for fun. and most of the time, we’re perfectly happy to create it for ourselves.

acm-aerial-2

sometimes, it’s little things like seeing who can find a penny first.

once it was me unexpectedly accepting his challenge to race around the courtyard of the museum in dallas.

which, by the way, was too. much. fun.
even a stranger who spectated couldn’t help but tell us when he came across us inside.

i also liked playing in the hanging spaghetti art thingy at the blanton.  3525170489_e9bedac171_o

probably pretty dirty but undoubtedly entertaining.

however, sometimes we don’t have to create fun because the fun comes to us.
and so we begin the story of last saturday night.

lesson of the day

i have been a busy bee today.

i spent the morning working on the job hunt, made lunch for my man, and have been working on switching my spare ooms around in preparation for the new temporary roommate.

i just finished for the day and was about to hop in the shower when i passed rose’s lair and thought to feed her another cricket.

feeling proud of myself for even remembering this, i got the crickets down from their home on top of the fridge.  i opened the cage, removed some dead ones, dropping them on the counter, and grabbed the live dinner.  after i put the poor sucker in her cage, i added some more cricket food for the last man standing and put the cage back in its place.

it was time to toss the dead guys which brings me here.

is there a doctor in the house!?

we may just be tv fixer and unemployed by day
but last night, chris and i became doctors…

…and little, old maggie was our victim patient.

as some of you know, i’ve pretty much been talking about her imminent death for about 4 years.  not the entire 4 years but definitely on and off and well…i’m back on again.

it’s not just me being crazy.
there was the time that she deemed it necessary to vomit on my off-white carpet at least once a day…for months!!  not fun.  it wasn’t until i’d exhausted the vet and talked to a student’s mom that i discovered she had acid reflux.

then, there’s the limping with doggie arthritis.  that seems to be like selective hearing though.  she can be all rickety walking to go out in the morning but then she’s like a lightening bolt on her way back in for breakfast.

lately, she’s been hiding, no matter where we are.  in the closets, corners, under the desk.  if there’s a nook, she’s probably there.
somewhere, i’ve heard dogs go someplace to hide and die.  every time i have to go look for her, i know she’s going to be dead.

anorexia excludes none

so far, today has been a good day.

eggs for breakfast, bed made, and kitchen tidied up before my parents arrived around 8:30. we spent about three hours dethatching and otherwise tending to my sad lawn while it was still a cool 94 degrees outside.

now, i finger-peck this post from my mama’s backyard. since i’ll be sweating it up later with some appreciated work from shawn, showering seemed wasteful, especially with a beautiful pool at my disposal.

as i put my towel down, countless memories of the same act flashed through my mind. i can’t think of a summer during which swimming and laying out, by pool and/or beach, wasn’t part of the norm. even when i was a beanpole and merrie was still shorter than me with peachfuzz legs, we took great care in laying our towels out and tried our best to rest for a bit before energy got the best of us and we had to run off to our next adventure.

what does this have to do with anorexia?
absolutely nothing.
