wakin’ with a smile

this morning, despite the fact that i could have used a few more hours of shut-eye, i woke up happy.
feelin’ good, satisfied with life, can’t stop smiling happy.

and really, why shouldn’t i be?  there are lots of things going on that make for happiness…

refresher

i was reading through some old posts, looking for something specific.  this is kinda fun.  it’s like reading my journal.  i get to smile and reminisce and see how i’ve grown…or not, sometimes.  that’s not very fun but i guess it’s useful in getting me back on track.
i came across a post that was particularly good to read so i’m linking you to it.
without faith, my life would be nothing.
God is awesome and i never want to forget it.

on a separate note, i love laughing at unfortunate scenarios and this has been one of my favorites for a few years.  if you have to pee, go before you watch. =)

all because of a ring

s6300805joy and i had our pictures taken in a photo booth today.
we forgot to put the coffee cups down, weren’t aware of how much of our bodies were included in the photos, and didn’t quite know when the pics were being taken til the last one but it was still kinda fun.

people are apparently having them at their wedding receptions these days and we got to benefit from the trend.

you see, today i experienced my very first bridal extravaganza at the austin convention center.  if you had asked me a week ago if i were going, i’d have been confused by the question and would have given an emphatic “no”.  however, when your roommate gets engaged, things can change quickly and you find yourself going to such things with only a couple of days notice.

as you’d imagine with a name like “extravaganza”, the room was full of tables to advertise photographers, caterers, wedding planners, cake people, decorators, etc, crowded with engaged girls and mothers galore.  joy and all the other brides-to-be had stickers to make them easy targets.  Read the rest of this entry »

five friends

**Note: before today, the last time i touched (and nearly completed this post) was in october.  i’m cleaning out the drafts and figured that this was worth keeping cause i already put a bit of time into it.  however, if some of the things seem dated, that’s why.

the title refers to both the 5 new zealand girls who continue to get together and one of the bottles of wine that we shared this summer.  let’s talk wine first. :)

back in july, we were meeting at nina’s new apartment and i called tracy for an emergency wine pick-up on her way. pulling through for us, as she always does, tracy Read the rest of this entry »

regular vs. reserve

for the italian dinner a few weeks back, i mentioned that we drank some chianti with our meal.  i rarely buy chianti though i’m not sure why.  i like it but for some reason it’s not one that usually makes the cut.  however, as our cooking teacher, giuseppina, instructed, chianti and her pasta are a must so i had to find some bottles to compliment the meal.

i thought it would be fun to compare two similar wines so i purchased the 2005 rocca delle macie chianti classico and its slightly higher priced relative, the riserva 2004. Read the rest of this entry »

wine whoopsie

i just realized that in my recent post drinkin in wine and the Word, i made a little mistake.  i lied about the inaugural wine!  well, i guess since it was unintentional, it wasn’t really a lie but it was misinformation.  the first wine i had was not house wine. (i think that was the second bottle we’ve had since opening again.)  the first one was 2006 tapena tempranillo.  i’m surprised i got confused about which one because choosing this wine for the girls on wednesday night had greater significance Read the rest of this entry »
